QUESTION 1: What other character(s) in the book besides the main character were important to the story? How and why?
RESPONSE 1: I think that Scipio is a very important in the story even though he isn't the main character. He shelters the main character, Prosper and his brother Bo in the book, and also steals things from his parents, to get them money so they can buy food. He starts out in the book as the "Thief Lord", a child who ran away from his home in an orphanage and lived of the money he got from stealing things from people and the rich homes of Venice. As the story progresses, the other perspective in the book, Victor (a detective), rats him out and tells the others that he lives with his incredibly rich father and that he's never stolen anything from someone else's home in his life.
Another reason that I find he is important is that he plays a significant role in the both perspectives of the story, that of Prosper's and Victor's. In Victors perspective, he is a mysterious boy who is sheltering the two kids that he was hired by their aunt and uncle to find. As the story progresses, he feels bad for the two kids, learning their story, and seeing the bond that they wish their aunt wishes to separate. He eventually helps Scipio protect these kids, and hires him after he rides on a magical marry go round that turns Scipio into an adult.
QUESTION 2: What has surprised you in the book? Why?
RESPONSE 2: In the book, their have been plenty of suprises, while their on the secret island with the marry go round, and plenty of other times while Victor is chasing them through the city. One example is where Prosper and Scipio are on the Ilse Segreta, or the Secret Island. They are trying to sneak over to where the magical merry go round is, and climb over a large wall surrounding the island. While they are sneaking around, they are caught by the two dogs on the. This suprised me because they were doing a good job sneaking around the island when they realized that they were being fallowed across the island as they tried to find the merry go round.
Another example would be when you find out that Scipio isn't really an orphan, but a spoiled child who steals things from his father and sells them for money, and then gives the money to his friends in the movie theater. The reason that this suprised me is because he is found out while Victor is at his house, asking his father about the movie theater that the kids are staying in. While they are meeting, Scipio is coming in to ask him a question, and his father completely ignores him and tells him to go away, this was two suprises in one for me, as seeing that Scipio was not some incredible thief, and seeing how poorly his father treated him.
