Chapter 11: Castle Rock

Lord of the Flies

Chapter 11: Castle Rock

Chapter 11 Reflection

1. 1. Piggy asks Ralph to take the conch with them and blow it on Jacks side of the island, even though he says it doesn’t count on his side.

2. 2.Piggy will tell Jack to give back his glasses because he can’t see without them, and that it is just the right thing to do.

3. 3. Ralph says that they will appear clean, with their hair combed and their bodies cleaned.

4. 4. Roger at the top of the fortress.

5. 5. Jack was hunting before he arrived at Castle Rock were Ralph and the others waited.

6. 6. Ralph loses his temper, and calls Jack a thief for stealing Piggy’s glasses, which then causes them to break out into a spear fight.

7. 7. Sam and Eric get tied up by the hunters, and are forced into joining Jack’s tribe of savages.

8. 8. While Piggy pleas to everyone to embrace their sane sides again, Roger is throwing rocks at Ralph, and trying to hit him, unlike when he was throwing them at Henry in chapter 4.

I think that Roger is responsible for Piggy’s gruesome death because he pushed the boulder off the edge of the top of Castle Rock. Roger was the only one who harmed Piggy and caused his death. Unlike Simon’s death, Roger was the only one who participated with the murder, thus making this claim reasonable. Another reason was because Roger knew Piggy didn’t have his glasses. Piggy is virtually blind without his glasses, and Roger knew he wouldn’t see the rock until it was right up in his face, which it was too late by then. Roger was the only one who could have caused Piggy’s death, and he would be charged in real life for murder, and no one else would, because they didn’t touch him, even though Jack claimed he had meant for it to happen, and it was all his plan to do that, it clearly wasn’t his intention for Roger to trigger the trap.
