Lord of the Files
Terror in the Forest
Perspective: Simon
The hike down the pig run was long, but the run down creepers made it easy to traverse. We walked for sometime in the unusually blistering heat. The bewildering heat had everyone dun as we marched through the trees. We continued and we stumbled across a wild boar, the boys tried to kill it, and they failed. Ralph managed to stick the boar in the nose after it grazed Jack’s arm, and I told him to suck the wound, and that would make it heal faster.
Ralph was so impressed with his bravado, and was trying to get the attention of the other boys. He made a stabbing motion and poked a boy named Robert. He pretended to squeal like a dying pig, they started with this game, and Jack called that we made a circle around him. I couldn’t see much after that, but I heard the squeals of mock pain become screams of real pain. He screamed at them to stop and by the overwhelming force of adrenaline he managed to shake them all off of him. He caressed his rump, and said something funny to try and regain some of his dignity. They started to discuss a sort of ritual of some sort. I overheard something about having someone dress up as a pig and that we would pretend to kill them. Jack said we could use a littleun, and practically being one myself, that was not a funny thing to me. The boys seemed impervious to the fact that they were clearly going insane.
We kept going until the scent of the brine from the ocean filled our nostrils and we reached the end of the island. We hiked and climbed around the rock area to the base of the mountain. The boys realized that it was getting dark and that they would not be able to hunt down the beast and make it back to camp in time for sundown so they sagely decided that one of us would have to go back. I volunteered and left before they had a chance to stop me, I was tired of trekking around with the savage boys. On the hike back, it gave me some time to think about the stuff that happened over the course of the day. The little “game” they played with Robert made me sure that we were slowly going insane, and that worried me deeply. How long would it be before they actually started to kill people? That could be like a scrimmage for a real murder. All the things that had happened to us over the course of the day would have me up all night, I just hope that things take a turn for the better soon.
