Chapter 9: A View to a Death

Lord of the Flies

Chapter 9: A View to a Death

1. The food that the flies preferred was the pig’s guts. Golding’s description of the flies they said the guts were more flavorful. Pretty gross.

2. 2. Simon decides to go to the top of the mountain were the dead aviator is.

3. 3. Simon untangles the parachute from the tree it’s caught on.

4. 4. Piggy suggests that he and Ralph should go to the party while they are in the bathing pool.

5. 5. The boys accept Ralph and Piggy’s awkward appearance at the party after some of the boys burn Piggy. (By bullying Piggy)

6. 6. Jack says the conch doesn’t work on his part of the island, and Ralph says it works everywhere.

7. 7. There is a thunderstorm, and it starts to rain.

8. 8. "Kill the Beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!"

9. 9. Simon crawls out of the forest, and tries to tell the boys that the beast on the mountain is just a dead man, but they kill him in the excitement of the chant.

I believe that all of the biguns are responsible for the death of Simon because they all participated in his killing. The reason I think that is because they all were in the circle, and ignored his claims about the dead man who they had mistaken about the aviator. Another reason was because they all ripped him apart, as Golding described it in the book, they struck, bit and tore his flesh. The reason I chose these parts of the book to prove my claim was because in the first one, they were all in the circle, including Ralph and Piggy. The reason I chose the second part was because in the quote, they chased him after he tried to get away, and beat him and tore him apart until he was dead, it was like the game they played in the 7th chapter, except they chose Simon as their target, who was not strong enough to fight off the bigger boys. The boys tore Simon apart, which is a gruesome way to die, and if in real life, these boys would be held on trial for murder, all of them would be proven guilty because they all partook in the killing.
